"Spring Violas"

"Spring Violas"

6 x 6 watercolor

$45

When you see pansies and violas in the garden center, you know Spring is around the corner! I had to photograph this painting in a tall format, but it is actually square, 6 inches by 6 inches. I like the complimentary colors together. Click on it for a bigger view.

Painting Pansies and Violas

I started a 6 x 6 watercolor today and here it is sitting by a pot of violas. I didn't get to spend much time on it, but did wash in a background and started the first layer of some of the leaves and flowers. I will be doing some glazing, that is putting more color over the undercoat. When it is done, I will post again and show you the finished painting.

"The Old School House"

"The Old School House"

10 x 14 Watercolor

$150

There are many similar old school houses in the United States, and hopefully they will be kept as museums and not torn down! This old clap board one is in Florida. The clue is in the palm tree shadow on the side of the building! I loved painting the shadows in this one. Click on it for a closer view.

"Bougainvillea Blooms"

"Bougainvillea Blooms"

8 x 10 Watercolor

$75

I finished the watercolor started yesterday. Having done no planning at all and I really didn't even set up a still life, I just let things happen as they would! I did a couple of unexpected things, such as the two red lines, one on the bowl and the other up a little higher in the painting. Many things I do when I paint just is an instinct and I don't even know why I do them! Most of the time it works out well! Click on this one to see it closer and see how and why you think the red lines work! Your comments are appreciated!

Starting a new watercolor....

I am working on a watercolor of bougainvillea

that is a lovely reddish purple color. A friend gave me a bouquet of these blooms from her garden and I just sat down to rest a bit, grabbed a watercolor tablet and did a fast drawing. Then I started right in on the blooms. No planning. No thought process at all.....just doing!

Now I am wondering what in the world am I going to do with this? I always plan out my compositions and usually do the background first, even. So here I am...no rules, no plans. I am determined not to abandon this no matter what. So stay tuned. We will see what flows out of the brush!

"Bottles and Lace"

"Bottles and Lace"

10 x 10 watercolor

$100

I found an interesting old "spooner" that someone used to keep spoons in on their kitchen table and when I put a blue bottle behind it, the reflections became very interesting. I sat up a still life using old lace, an amber bottle and some glass balls similar to marbles. This one was fun to do!

"Bowl of Cherries"

"Bowl of Cherries"

6 x 6 acrylic on panel

$ 45

It is so much fun to paint these little 6 x 6 paintings! I loved doing this one. The cherries were absolutely beautiful and tasty as well! I like the color in the background which really helps "pop" the reds. This would be so cute on a little easel in a kitchen!

"Marbles"

"Marbles"

6 x 6 egg tempera on board

$50

A neighbor carved the wooden ball in an open box from one piece of wood...truly amazing. The marbles repeat the roundness of the wooden ball.

"A Cotswold Sketchbook"

I am posting a peek at a very beautiful book I acquired. It is from artist, Lesley Holmes, A Cotswold Sketchbook. Lately, I have been researching the Cotswolds in England thinking about a possible painting holiday there in the summer. Have any of you other artists out there been to the Cotswolds. Or anyone who follows my posts. I would love to have any information you may have.

I would love to paint, sketch and take photographs there! This book certainly depicts many lovely homes and interesting and quaint places there, as well as beautiful plants and flowers.

I look forward to hearing from you!

"Little Irish Girl with Rabbit"

"Little Irish Girl with Rabbit"

8 x 10 watercolor

$150

At a petting zoo in Northern Ireland, I was completely taken by this sweet little girl holding a baby bunny. The flowers made a perfect background to showcase the little girl in her hat. She had just looked up for photos.
