I finished the still life with potted lilies and my little Brown Betty tea pot. By the time I got it painted, all the flowers had dropped off the lily and now I must plant it in the ground! I always enjoy doing crochet and lace, so it was fun getting the reflections in the tea pot. The painting looks more vibrant in real life...I may need a new camera! I took the photo outdoors, but still, the colors look more subdued here than in real life. Hope you like it and your comments are appreciated.

Painting Lilies

I am painting a still life of lilies with a tea pot and lace. It is going slow as I have had some other things that had to be done other than painting, as always! For one thing, someone backed into my car, denting the fender and that has to be dealt with. But the painting is coming along and I am enjoying doing it. I think flowers are probably my favorite subject, whether in a still life or in a landscape. So stay turned...it will be finished soon!

This close up of the beautiful stones on the structures in Broadway, England and the windows surrounded by flowers was fun to paint! By enlarging it, you can see how I used a splatter method to created the colorful flowers in the foreground. I also used some dry brush texture in the stones and the wet into wet technique in other places.

I am still painting on a series of cottage and tea room paintings from the Cotswold region of England, where my daughter and son-in-law vacationed with my husband, Bob, and me last summer just before Fall. It was still quite beautiful there with many flowers and lovely weather most of the time. Among my favorite things are thatch-roofed houses and English gardens.  I was pleased with how this painting turned out and hope you like it, too. Click on it for a closer view.

I have finally finished this watercolor! It just didn't seem to want to be finished! Or maybe I labored over it unnecessarily. I enjoyed doing the sky and love how it looks. I enjoyed the texture done with dry brush technique. But somehow I got a little bogged down with detail and wish I had been a little more playful in the application of the paint. Still, it captures the essence of the tearooms in Cotswold. Hope you like it! Click on it for a closer look. Beginning a new painting....

Hi Everyone,
I have the beginning of a new painting to show you. It is from my travels in the Cotswold section of England last August/September. The quaint villages were so beautiful and this painting is of a little tea room at Bourton on the Water. I am doing some interesting dry brush work on the stones. Click on it to see a closer view. I have LOTS to do, but thought you might enjoy seeing something underway. I have found it difficult to paint daily since Christmas, as there are so many other things in ones' life to take up time....often things that have to be done, but that you had rather not do, such as work on taxes, do a clean out which can take months, and then of course, just daily drudgery of keeping the place tidy. I have always said that artists need personal assistants to take care of everything. Dream on!
