Back by popular request, the lovely Fall pear sisters, Trudy and Peg Pear. They posed for me in front of their favorite vintage hanky, thinking the colors of its border would compliment their Autumn coloring. It did! Click on this to see the detail.

"The Pumpkin Sisters"

8x8 Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas

These pumpkins were so pretty, I just could not resist painting them. They seemed to just pose for me, so I named them Lolita, Jessie and Pumfrances! Pumfrances is in the front and tried to be the center of attention. Lovely girls..the colors in them really are beautiful. Hope you like this painting.

I've posted this before, but it is one of my favorite paintings and I thought you might enjoy another look at it. The pattern of the leaves with the ribs and veins running through them and the subtle color changes make cabbages grand to paint! Click on it for a closer view.

I love to see mums start blooming in the Fall. There are so many lovely colors in these compact plants. It was fun painting the overlapping petals of this mass of blooms against Autumn's blue sky.

"Golden Zinnias"

"Golden Zinnias"

Zinnias bloom in my garden when nothing else will! They love sun and hot weather, and we have plenty of both! This cheery little painting presents the lovely golden color and I especially like that color next to the purple flowers.

"Sunflowers"

"Sunflowers"

11 1/2 x 16 Pastel

$125

I finished the pastel painting I had started. The poor sunflowers I used as a model have just about had it! They didn't last very long, but they were purchased and not something I grew ( I wish I had some growing). They lasted long enough to do the painting, though.

I like the way it turned out. The colors are a bit brighter in real life than here. I try to take as close a photo as the real thing, but it is often rather difficult, even though I try various camera settings, various and different light sources and go outdoors, as well. This photo was the best of the lot.

Pastel "Sunflowers" in progress...

Today I have sat up a still life of sunflowers in a clear orange vase and a little tea pot sitting by its side. You can see how I have started to work. The blue tape holds my Canson Pastel paper to a board and you can see all my pastels , as well as pastel pencils on my drawing table. These days, due to problem knees and feet, I prefer to sit and work, but it means getting up frequently and putting my painting board on an upright easel to view the painting from a distance.

I should have this finished by tomorrow...maybe!

"Fall Roses"

"Fall Roses"

7 3/4 x 10 Pastel

$50

I am enjoying doing some Pastels just now. It has been a few years, really, since I have done much with them. I decided to do a series of paintings with them and strive for more looseness, freedom from subject matter, but to concentrate on composition, value and color. Anyway, I am just getting started, so it feels a little strange to not be using a brush and liquid pigments! Pastels are soft--the edges usually look soft in the painting and that is quite nice. Click on this to see it better. Your comments are appreciated.

"The Garden Bench"

"The Garden Bench"

8 x 11 Pastel

$50

This is a loosely done Pastel of a scene in Heathcote Botanical Garden, one of my favorite places to paint and explore. I did this, however, from some of the many photos I've taken there. It is too hot right now to even think about plein air painting! Can Fall be around the corner? I certainly hope so!

"Fall Still Life with Pumpkin"

"Fall Still Life with Pumpkin"

8 x 10 acrylic on stretched canvas

$65

Today is the first day of September, and even though it is hot here in Florida, I am thinking Fall! The grocers already have fall guords and decorations out, so that really puts one in the mood. Oh, how I long for cooler weather! Love the Fall colors in this painting!
